Together they uncover the order's unholy secret. Risking not only their lives but their faith and their very souls, they confront a malevolent force in the form of the same demonic nun that first terrorized audiences in 'The Conjuring 2,' as the abbey becomes a horrific battleground between the living and the damned.

ABOUT THE NUN 2020
The Nun is a 2018 American gothic supernatural horror film directed by Corin Hardy and written by Gary Dauberman, from a story by Dauberman and James Wan.[2][3] It is a spin-off of 2016's The Conjuring 2 and the fifth installment in the Conjuring Universe franchise. The film stars Demián Bichir, Taissa Farmiga and Jonas Bloquet, with Bonnie Aarons reprising her role as the Demon Nun, an incarnation of Valak, from The Conjuring 2. The plot follows a Roman Catholic priest and a nun in her novitiate as they uncover an unholy secret in 1952 Romania. Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema announced The Nun, a spin-off film to The Conjuring 2, which had opened five days earlier, with Safran and Wan producing. The initial script for the film was written by David Leslie Johnson. Hardy had signed on to direct The Nun with a new screenplay from Wan and Dauberman. Principal photography began in May 2017 in Bucharest, Romania, and during filming, the set was blessed by a Roman Catholic clergyman.[4] The Nun was released in the United States on September 7, 2018, by Warner Bros. Pictures. It received generally mixed reviews from critics, with praise for its performances and atmosphere, but criticism for its weak narrative and over-reliance on jump-scares. It grossed $365 million worldwide, thus becoming the highest-grossing film of the series.[5] A sequel is currently in development with Akela Cooper penning the script and James Wan and Peter Safran co-producing the project.[6]

In 1952 Romania, two nuns living at the Saint Cartha's monastery are attacked by an unseen evil force after entering a tunnel to retrieve an ancient Christian relic. The surviving nun, Sister Victoria, flees from the attacker, a demon appearing as a nun, and hangs herself. Her body is discovered by Frenchie, a villager who transports supplies to the nuns. The Vatican learns of the incident and summons Father Burke to Rome, where they ask him to travel with Sister Irene, a nun in her novitiate, to Romania in order to investigate the situation. While Sister Irene is teaching children the relationship between religion and science in a school, her Mother Superior interrupts her and informs her that Burke has arrived in order to request Irene's accompaniment in his trip to Romania. The pair travels to Romania and meets with Frenchie, who leads them to the abbey. They discover Victoria's body and take a key from her corpse. Inside, they encounter the Abbess, who informs them that the nuns observe a period of silence during the night and offers them lodging at the attached convent if they wish to return tomorrow. Frenchie is attacked by a demon as he returns to the village, but escapes. Burke tells Irene that a boy he exorcised in the past, Daniel, was fatally injured during the ritual, and Burke has carried the burden of the boy's death with him ever since. Irene reveals that as a girl, she had visions and each of them concluded with "Mary points the way", causing the Church to take an interest in her. That night, Burke is rescued by Irene after being buried alive in the graveyard by the demonic entity. The next day, Irene and Burke return to the abbey, but only Irene can enter as it is cloistered. She meets some of the other nuns and learns that they are praying constantly, swapping in shifts, to keep the evil entity at bay. Sister Oana reveals the abbey's history: it was built in the Middle Ages as a castle by a duke obsessed with the occult. The duke summoned the demon through a rift in the catacombs but was killed by Christian knights, who sealed the rift with a vial filled with the Blood of Christ. However, the bombings during World War II accidentally reopened the rift, unleashing the evil entity once more. Burke identifies the demon as Valak and discovers the Abbess has been dead all along. Frenchie heads back to the abbey to help Irene and Burke. Irene is attacked by Valak and joins the nuns in desperate prayer to ward off the demon. When the group reunites, Irene discovers that none of the nuns she had seen and talked to were real and she had been praying alone, later realizing that Victoria had been the last nun in the abbey and had sacrificed herself to stop Valak from possessing her body and unleashing evil. Theorizing that Valak can only be stopped if they seal the rift with the blood of Christ contained in the reliquary, the trio retrieves the vial with the key Victoria possessed. Irene then informs Burke that God has called her to make her solemn vows as a nun and asks Burke to elevate her to the status of a professed nun, which he does in the abbey's chapel. After the trio unlocks the tunnel door, Irene is lured into a pentagram and possessed by Valak. Frenchie smears some of the blood of Christ on her face, casting out the demon. Burke is wounded by Daniel's ghost as Valak starts to drown Irene in a flooded chamber. Irene expels the blood of Christ in the demon's face, banishing it as the blood of Christ seals the rift. After Frenchie resuscitates Irene, he reveals his real name is Maurice. Unbeknownst to the others, Maurice has been possessed by Valak, as evidenced by an inverted cross on his neck. Twenty years later at a university seminar, in Wakefield, Massachusetts, Carolyn Perron watches as Ed and Lorraine Warren present footage of their attempt to exorcise a possessed Maurice. In the footage, Maurice grabs Lorraine, giving her visions of Ed dying, which initiates the Warrens' investigation of the Perron farmhouse haunting.

Demián Bichir as Father Burke, Taissa Farmiga as Sister Irene, Jonas Bloquet as Maurice "Frenchie" Theriault, Bonnie Aarons as Valak / the Nun, Charlotte Hope as Sister Victoria, Ingrid Bisu as Sister Oana, Sandra Teles as Sister Ruth, Manuela Ciucur as Sister Christine, Ani Sava as Sister Jessica, Maria Obretin as Sister Abigail, Gabrielle Downey as the Abbess, August Maturo as Daniel, Jack Falk as evil Daniel, Jonny Coyne as Gregoro, Mark Steger as the Duke, Jared Morgan as Marquis, Michael Smiley as Bishop Pasquale, Joseph Bishara as the voice of the Demon.
Additionally, Patrick Wilson, Vera Farmiga, Christof Veillon, Lili Taylor and Shannon Kook appear in archive footage from The Conjuring as Ed and Lorraine Warren, the older Maurice Theriault, Carolyn Perron and Drew Thomas respectively.

On June 15, 2016, Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema announced The Nun, a spin-off film to The Conjuring 2, which had opened five days earlier. Peter Safran and James Wan produced. The initial script for the film was written by David Leslie Johnson.[7] On February 17, 2017, it was announced that Corin Hardy had signed on to direct The Nun with a new screenplay from Wan and Gary Dauberman.[8] During the filming of Annabelle: Creation, Safran revealed that The Nun would chronologically come first in the Conjuring Universe, making it a further prequel to The Conjuring series and Annabelle series. He said, "We have a board that we created that has what we hope will ultimately be our series of movies. We have it in chronological order, so we can keep track of where it all happens."[9]

On April 5, 2017, Demián Bichir was cast in the film, as a priest investigating a nun's mysterious suicide.[10] Taissa Farmiga was cast shortly after, as a Roman Catholic nun in her novitiate.[11] Corin Hardy later said that he initially did not want to cast Farmiga due to her being the sister of The Conjuring star Vera Farmiga, but changed his mind when he saw her auditions, "I watched 100 auditions for this role and she had some kind of presence outside of her own body that is evident, and she's phenomenal."[12] Bonnie Aarons was then set to reprise her role as the "Demon Nun" character Valak from The Conjuring 2.[13] Charlotte Hope, Jonas Bloquet, and Ingrid Bisu were subsequently announced to star, rounding out the main cast.[14][15][16]

Principal photography for the film began on May 3, 2017, at Castel Film Studios in Bucharest, Romania, with Maxime Alexandre serving as cinematographer.[17] Film director Corin Hardy had a Roman Catholic priest bless the set prior to filming.[4] Scenes were filmed in the Palace of the Parliament building in June, for a fee of €5,000 per hour.[18] Filming also took place at the Corvin Castle in Hunedoara[19] and in Sighișoara, Transylvania.[20] Hardy saw a handprint in the dust while filming in Mogoșoaia, which he believed to be that of a ghost.[21] Hardy announced on his social media accounts that production had wrapped on June 23, 2017, after 38 days.[contradictory][22]

The Nun reportedly went under extensive reshoots. The Curse of La Llorona cinematographer Michael Burgess had worked on the film.[23] Wan also worked as a second unit director under Hardy.[24]

The original musical score for The Nun was composed by Abel Korzeniowski,[25] and was released on August 31, 2018, by WaterTower Music.

Warner Bros. Pictures had initially scheduled The Nun to be released in the United States on July 13, 2018.[26] In February 2018, it was announced that the film's release date would be pushed back to September 7, 2018.[27] On June 13, 2018, a teaser trailer was released.[28] In August 2018, a short advertisement for the film was removed from YouTube due to an unskippable jump scare that violated the platform's "Shocking Content" policies.[29] The studio spent an estimated $90 million on prints and advertisements for the film.[30] The film was released on Digital HD on November 20, 2018 and on Blu-ray and DVD on December 4, 2018.

The Nun grossed $117.5 million in the United States and Canada, and $248.1 million in other territories, for a total worldwide gross of $365.6 million, against a production budget of $22 million, becoming the highest-grossing film in the franchise.[1] Deadline Hollywood calculated the net profit of the film to be $155 million, when factoring together all expenses and revenues.[30] In the United States and Canada, The Nun was released alongside Peppermint and God Bless the Broken Road, and was originally projected to gross $32–37 million in its opening weekend.[31] By the week of its release, forecasts had been increased to $36–45 million from 3,876 theaters.[32] It made $22.4 million on its first day, including $5.4 million from Thursday night previews, both the highest such numbers for The Conjuring films. It went on to debut to $53.8 million, also marking the best figure of the franchise, and became the first film in almost a month to finish ahead of Crazy Rich Asians at the box office.[33] In other territories, it currently ranks as the highest-grossing horror film of all time in twelve markets, including the Philippines (where it has grossed $5 million in its first week), Indonesia, Brazil, Romania and UAE.[34][35]

On review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds an approval rating of 26% based on 193 reviews, and an average rating of 4.43/10. The site's critical consensus reads, "The Nun boasts strong performances, spooky atmospherics, and a couple decent set-pieces, but its sins include inconsistent logic, and narrative slackness."[36] On Metacritic, the film has a weighted average score of 46 out of 100, based on 32 critics, indicating "mixed or average reviews".[37] Audiences polled by CinemaScore gave the film an average grade of "C" on an A+ to F scale, the lowest of the series.[33] The Plugged In review for the film summarized the spirituality evident in the film: "Evil is real, the movie tells us, but so is God. Spiritual trappings are everywhere. And when in doubt or danger, you can't go wrong with a little prayer."[38] In her review of the film published in the National Catholic Reporter, Sr. Rose Pacatte, a nun belonging to the Daughters of St. Paul, stated "that there are two Catholic theological aspects of this film that are accurate: one is that the devil exists, and the other is that Mary, the Mother of Jesus, will show us the way."[4] Another religious sister, Nicole Reich, stated in her review of the film published on Syfy Wire that if Valak was a real demon, he would never be able to reveal himself while the "sisters were in perpetual adoration...because the Lord was present".[39]

In August 2017, Wan discussed the possibility of a Nun sequel and what its storyline might entail: "I do know where potentially, if The Nun works out, where The Nun 2 could lead to and how that ties back to Lorraine's story that we've set up with the first two Conjurings and make it all come full circle."[6] In April 2019, it was announced by Peter Safran that a sequel was in development. He stated there was a "really fun" storyline planned for the film,[40] and commented that there was an "inevitability to another The Nun movie".[41] Later that month, Akela Cooper signed onto the project as screenwriter, while Safran and James Wan will serve as producers. Bonnie Aarons will be reprising her role as Valak, the demon nun.[42]

ABOUT BIRDS OF PREY 2020
Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)[a] is a 2020 American superhero film based on the DC Comics team Birds of Prey. It is the eighth installment in the DC Extended Universe and a follow-up to Suicide Squad (2016). It was directed by Cathy Yan and written by Christina Hodson, and it stars Margot Robbie, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Rosie Perez, Chris Messina, Ella Jay Basco, Ali Wong, and Ewan McGregor. The film follows Harley Quinn as she joins forces with Helena Bertinelli, Dinah Lance, and Renee Montoya to save Cassandra Cain from Gotham City crime lord Black Mask. Robbie, who also served as producer, pitched the idea for Birds of Prey to Warner Bros. in 2015. The film was announced in May 2016, with Hodson being hired to write the script that November, followed by Yan signing on to direct in April 2018. The majority of the cast and crew were confirmed by December 2018. Principal photography lasted from January to April 2019 in Downtown Los Angeles, parts of the Arts District, Los Angeles, and soundstages at Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank, California. Additional filming took place in September 2019. Birds of Prey is the first DCEU film and the second DC Films production to be rated R by the Motion Picture Association of America. The film had its world premiere in Mexico City on January 25, 2020, and was theatrically released in the United States in IMAX, Dolby Cinema, and 4DX on February 7, 2020. It grossed $201 million worldwide, making it the fourth highest-grossing film of 2020.[7] The film received praise from critics for its visual style, Yan's direction, and Robbie's performance, but criticism for Hodson's screenplay.

After the Enchantress' defeat,[b] the Joker breaks up with Harley Quinn, throwing her out on the Gotham City streets. She is taken in by Doc, the owner of a Taiwanese restaurant, and recovers from her relationship by cutting her hair, adopting a spotted hyena (whom she names after Bruce Wayne), and taking up roller derby. Harley gets drunk at a nightclub owned by Roman Sionis, a ruthless crime lord, and cripples his driver after said driver insults her. She meets burlesque singer Dinah Lance, who later rescues an intoxicated Harley from an attempted abduction. Sionis is impressed by Dinah's skills and appoints her as his new driver. The next night, Harley blows up the Ace Chemicals plant as a way to publicly announce her and Joker's breakup. Meanwhile, GCPD Detective Renee Montoya investigates a series of mob killings carried out by a crossbow-wielding vigilante. Finding Harley's necklace at the scene of the Ace Chemicals explosion, Montoya notes that Harley is in danger without the Joker's protection. She approaches Dinah about being an informant on Sionis for them, but Dinah rejects the offer. Sionis sends Dinah and his sadistic right-hand-man Victor Zsasz to retrieve a diamond embedded with the account numbers to the Bertinelli crime family fortune, who were massacred years ago. Young pickpocket Cassandra "Cass" Cain steals the diamond from Zsasz and swallows it after she is arrested. Harley, fleeing from Montoya and several other people she had wronged, is captured by Sionis's men. Zsasz informs Sionis that Cassandra has the diamond, and Dinah warns Montoya. As Sionis prepares to have Harley killed, she offers to recover the diamond for him. Sionis agrees but also places a bounty on Cassandra. Breaking into the GCPD with a variety of firework-inspired non-lethal grenade launcher rounds, Harley frees Cassandra and the pair escape. After escaping, Harley and Cassandra bond while hiding out at the former's apartment. Doc is approached for information by the "crossbow killer", who is revealed to be Helena Bertinelli. Having survived her family's massacre and becoming trained as an assassin, Helena has been targeting each of the gangsters responsible for her family's murders, preferring the moniker of "The Huntress". Quinn's apartment is later bombed by criminals looking for Cassandra, and Doc sorrowfully reveals that he sold Harley out. Harley calls Sionis and offers to turn Cassandra over in exchange for his protection, agreeing to meet at an abandoned amusement park. Dinah notifies Montoya of the rendezvous, but her betrayal is noticed by Zsasz, who informs Sionis. A devastated Sionis dons his ritualistic mask from which he gets his villainous nickname, "Black Mask". At the park, Montoya confronts Harley, but Harley knocks her out of a window. Zsasz arrives and tranquilizes Harley before holding Dinah at gunpoint, but he is killed by Helena, who reveals Zsasz was the last of her family's killers. Montoya returns and a stand-off ensues, until they realize Sionis has arrived with a small army of masked criminals, known collectively as the False Face Society. Using Quinn's old gear, the makeshift team successfully withstand and repel their attack. During the battle, Cassandra is captured by Sionis, while Dinah reveals her metahuman ability of supersonic-level screaming, defeating an additional number of mobsters aligned with Sionis. Harley gives chase on roller skates, and with assistance from Helena, the pair pursue Sionis. At a nearby pier, the final confrontation occurs. Sionis prepares to kill Cassandra, but she pulls the ring from a grenade that she slipped in his jacket after taking it from Harley's weapons chest earlier. Harley throws Sionis off the pier just before the grenade detonates and kills him. In the aftermath of destroying Sionis's criminal empire, Montoya quits the GCPD. With the money within the accounts hidden inside the diamond, she joins Dinah and Helena in establishing a team of vigilantes called the Birds of Prey. Harley and Cassandra escape, selling the diamond itself to a pawnshop and starting their own contract killing business. In a post-credits audio sequence, Harley is about to reveal a secret about Batman, but the film ends mid-sentence.

Margot Robbie as Harleen Quinzel / Harley Quinn: A former-certified psychiatrist, who became a crazed criminal and the Joker's accomplice/girlfriend, and later a part of the Suicide Squad. She has since cut ties with the Joker after the pair broke up.[8] Screenwriter Christina Hodson sought to reinvent Harley, wanting to expand on the character following her departure from the Joker's company.[9] Hodson called Harley the character she enjoyed developing most due to her unpredictable personality.[10] Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Helena Bertinelli / The Huntress: A vigilante who is the orphaned daughter of gangster Franco Bertinelli.[11][12][13] Ella Mika portrays a young Helena, during flashback scenes.[14] Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Dinah Lance / Black Canary:[11][12][15] A vigilante with the metahuman ability of hypersonic screams, which she inherited genetically from her mother.[16][17] She is a singer in a club that Sionis owns.[18] Smollett-Bell described Dinah as "disenfranchised and disconnected from the world," and someone who "doesn’t really want to have anything to do with crime fighting or being a good-doer, which is so against her nature because we know Dinah to be all heart." The actress added she became a fan of Black Canary by playing with the character in the video game Injustice 2,[19] which also influenced how she physically portrayed the depiction of the hypersonic screams.[20] Rosie Perez as Renee Montoya:[21][22] An alcoholic, cynical detective in the Gotham City Police Department (GCPD), who is building a case against Sionis. Chris Messina as Victor Zsasz: A deranged mob killer and henchman of Sionis who carves a tally mark on his skin for each victim he claims.[23] Ella Jay Basco as Cassandra Cain: A young girl who has a contract placed upon her head by Sionis after she steals a valuable diamond from him.[21][24] Ali Wong as Ellen Yee: Montoya's ex-girlfriend and Gotham City district attorney.[23][25] Ewan McGregor as Roman Sionis / Black Mask: A brutal and iron-fisted crime lord who threatens Cassandra and Harley.[26][27] McGregor described the character as "an absolute narcissist."[28] Additionally, Steven Williams portrays Captain Patrick Erickson, Montoya's superior at the GCPD; Dana Lee portrays Doc, Quinn's friend who owns a Taiwanese restaurant; François Chau portrays Mr. Keo, a rival crime boss of Sionis; Derek Wilson portrays Tim Munroe, a GCPD detective; Matt Willig portrays Happy, previously a henchman who worked for the Joker and for Stefano Galante; and whose face was tattooed by Quinn and the Joker; and Bojana Novakovic portrays Erika Manson, a night club patron who gets harassed by Sionis. Charlene Amoia and Paul Lasa respectively portray Maria and Franco Bertinelli, the mother and father of Helena; Robert Catrini portrays Stefano Galante, the mob boss who killed the Bertinelli family.[13][29] The Joker appears in the film, through animated-special effects during a flashback sequence, as well as through the combined use of archive footage of Jared Leto from Suicide Squad and body-double Johnny Goth on set. These techniques were used because Leto was not available during filming.[30] A still photograph of Jai Courtney as George "Digger" Harkness / Captain Boomerang also appears on a wall in the Gotham City Police Department.[31]

In May 2016, ahead of the release of Suicide Squad, Warner Bros. Pictures announced a spinoff film focusing on Harley Quinn and several other female DC Comics heroes and villains, such as Batgirl and the Birds of Prey. Margot Robbie was attached to reprise her role as Harley Quinn, and would also serve as producer.[8][32] British screenwriter Christina Hodson was announced to be writing the film in November.[33] Robbie had pitched the film to Warner Bros. in 2015 as "an R-rated girl gang film including Harley, because I was like, 'Harley needs friends.' Harley loves interacting with people, so don't ever make her do a standalone film." Robbie felt it was important for the film to have a female director. While Warner Bros. and DC Films had various other Harley Quinn-oriented films in development, Birds of Prey was the only one with whose development Robbie was directly involved.[34] Robbie spent three years working on Birds of Prey and continued to present it to Warner Bros. until the studio felt the project was at the point it could be made.[34] By April 2018, Warner Bros. and DC Films had finalized a deal with Cathy Yan to direct, making her the first female Asian director to direct a superhero film.[35] Yan pitched for the job as "wanting to smash the patriarchy."[36] Robbie was confirmed to be producing the film under her LuckyChap Entertainment banner, as part of a first look deal she has with the studio; Sue Kroll and Bryan Unkless were also announced to serve as producers through their companies Kroll & Co. Entertainment and Clubhouse Pictures, respectively. Production was scheduled to begin by late 2018 or early 2019.[37] The Penguin was intended to appear in the script at one point, but was dropped to preserve his DC Extended Universe debut in The Batman.[38] Barbara Gordon / Batgirl, a founding member of the team in the comics, was removed from Birds of Prey due to her upcoming standalone film, which is also being written by Christina Hodson.[39]

By July 2018, the film was entering pre-production.[40] Robbie confirmed the film would be titled Birds of Prey, describing it as "different" from the other DC films featuring Harley Quinn, and said it would be produced on a relatively small budget compared to other superhero films.[41][42] She also stated that Harley Quinn would receive a new costume, and teased the casting of diverse actors.[43] The line-up for the Birds of Prey team was revealed to include Black Canary, Huntress, Cassandra Cain, and Renee Montoya, with the villain set to be a Batman adversary who had not yet been seen in film.[21] Casting began in August,[44] with Warner Bros. considering a number of actresses for Huntress and Black Canary. Alexandra Daddario, Jodie Comer, Blake Lively, and Vanessa Kirby expressed interest.[45][46] In August, Roman Sionis / Black Mask was revealed to be the film's antagonist.[47] Janelle Monáe, Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Jurnee Smollett-Bell were under consideration for Black Canary by September, while Sofia Boutella, Margaret Qualley, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Cristin Milioti were being considered to play Huntress.[48] Justina Machado and Roberta Colindrez tested for Renee Montoya, while Warner Bros. began seeking a 12-year-old Asian actress to play Cassandra Cain.[49] In late September, Smollett-Bell and Winstead were respectively cast as Black Canary and Huntress,[11] Warner Bros. scheduled a February 7, 2020 release date,[50] and Ewan McGregor and Sharlto Copley were under consideration for the role of Black Mask.[51] During the U.S.-China Entertainment Summit in October, Yan confirmed the cast and that the film would be R-rated. She said, "[I] could not put the script down, it had so much dark humor to it which a lot of my work does, and there are themes of female empowerment which are so strong and relatable."[52] Cinematographer Matthew Libatique joined the film that month,[53] as did Rosie Perez as Renee Montoya.[22] Stunt coordinator Jonathan Eusebio and fight coordinator Jon Valera joined in November,[54] along with McGregor as Black Mask[26] and Ella Jay Basco as Cassandra Cain.[24] Robbie revealed the full title,[55] and said that the subtitle reflects the humorous tone of the film.[56] Production designer K. K. Barrett joined in December,[57] as did Chris Messina as Victor Zsasz.[23] Steven Williams, Derek Wilson, Dana Lee, François Chau, Matthew Willig, Robert Catrini, and Ali Wong were also cast.[23][25]

Principal photography began in Los Angeles, California in January 2019 under the working title Fox Force Five.[58][59][60] Although filming had been expected to also take place in Atlanta and Savannah, Georgia,[61] the entire shoot took place in Los Angeles after the production received a tax credit from the state of California.[62][40] Filming was expected to be completed by mid-April 2019.[63] In February, Charlene Amoia joined the cast.[13] Filming wrapped on April 15, 2019.

Jay Cassidy and Evan Schiff served as editors, while Method Studios, Weta Digital, Luma Pictures, Image Engine and Crafty Apes provided the visual effects for the film.[65][66][67][68] In August 2019, Chad Stahelski served as a second unit director for reshoots, his company 87eleven having been already involved in the development of the action scenes.[69] Photography for the additional footage began on September 3, 2019.[70][71] Costume concept artist Greg Hopwood released an exclusive look at Costume production art at San Diego Comic Con in July 2019 [72]

In September 2019, Daniel Pemberton was announced to serve as composer for the film's score.[73] The Original Motion Picture Score album was released by WaterTower Music on February 14, 2020.[74] A soundtrack album for the film, titled Birds of Prey: The Album, was announced in January 2020 and was released on February 7 by Atlantic Records, to coincides with the film's release. To promote the album, a single was released every Friday before the film's release.[75] "Diamonds" by Megan Thee Stallion and Normani was released on January 10,[76] "Joke's On You" by Charlotte Lawrence was released on January 17,[77] "Boss Bitch" by Doja Cat was released on January 24, "Sway with Me" by Saweetie and GALXARA was released on January 31[78] and "Experiment on Me" by Halsey, was released the same day as the album.[79] A solo version of "Sway with Me" by GALXARA was released as a standalone single on May 1, 2020.[80] The movie also includes songs which are not featured on the album, such as Spiderbait's "Black Betty", which plays during the fight scene at the police impound, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts' "I Hate Myself For Loving You", which plays during the montage of Harley trying to move on from the Joker, Heart's "Barracuda", which plays for the first part of the fight against the False Face Society, and Kesha's "Woman", which plays during the final scene.

Marketing began on January 21, 2019, when a first-look production video of the characters and costumes titled "See You Soon" was released by Warner Bros. via YouTube.[81] DC Comics published a promotional trade paperback anthology featuring stories based on the film on November 12, 2019.[82] The first teaser debuted exclusively in theatres on September 5, 2019, in front of screenings for It: Chapter Two, with Quinn stating that she is "over clowns" while popping a red balloon, in a collective reference to It / Pennywise the Dancing Clown and the Joker.[83] A short teaser was released on the film's social media pages, announcing the first official trailer would be released on October 1, 2019. A series of posters, which also announced the trailer debut, was released the same day.[84] On December 5, 2019, Birds of Prey held a panel at the annual CCXP in Brazil, showing the first five minutes of the film, and the second official trailer, which was released online on January 9, 2020. A three-day pop-up event named Harleywood was also organized at the Hollywood and Highland Center with the presence of the cast on the launch day. Artists who contributed to the soundtrack were also present to promote it, with Charlotte Lawrence and Doja Cat performing.

Birds of Prey was theatrically released by Warner Bros. Pictures in the United States on February 7, 2020, in standard, IMAX, IMAX 3D, Dolby Cinema, 4DX and ScreenX formats.[50][86][87] The film had its world premiere on January 25, 2020, at the Proyecto Publico Prim in Mexico City.[88] It also screened at the BFI IMAX in London on January 29, and at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes on January 30, during a special event named Le Festival de Quinn (The Quinn Festival) in reference to the Cannes Film Festival.[89][90] On February 10, 2020, it was reported that the film was being displayed under the title Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey on the websites for AMC Theatres, Cinemark Theatres, and Regal Cinemas.[5][6] According to Screen Rant, the name change was mandated by Warner Bros.[5][91] However, TheWrap subsequently reported that "an individual with knowledge at the studio" denied that Warner Bros. had revised the title, and quoted Atom Tickets' Alisha Grauso's explanation that the new listing was "apparently for display/search purposes only for vendors and theaters, not an official title change."

In North America, the film was released digitally and on video on demand on March 24, 2020, earlier than planned due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In the United Kingdom, it was released digitally and on video on demand on April 24, 2020.[citation needed] The Blu-ray, 4K Ultra HD, and DVD were released in North America on May 12, 2020.[93][94]

Birds of Prey grossed $84.2 million in the United States and Canada, and $117.7 million in other territories, for a worldwide total of $201.9 million.[3][4] According to Variety, the film needed to gross $250–300 million worldwide in order to break even.[2] In the United States and Canada, Birds of Prey was initially projected to gross $50–55 million from 4,236 theaters in its opening weekend.[95] However, after making $13 million in its first day, including $4 million from Thursday night previews, estimates were lowered and it went on to debut to $33 million. The film finished first at the box office but marked the lowest opening for a DC film since Jonah Hex in 2010 ($5.3 million), and was 75% smaller than Suicide Squad's $133.4 million opening in 2016. The low start was blamed on the possible lack of demand for a solo film surrounding the character of Harley Quinn, as well as the confusing title and the R rating limiting the appeal and demographics for ticket sales.[96] In its second weekend the film fell 48% to $17.1 million, finishing second, behind newcomer Sonic the Hedgehog, and then made $7 million in its third, dropping another 59%.[97][98][99] In other territories, the film was expected to debut to $60–70 million from 76 countries, for a worldwide total of $110–125 million.[95] It made $7.8 million after two days of overseas release in 51 countries and $18.1 million from the full 76 after three. The film went on to make $46 million from international play in its opening weekend, and $79 million worldwide. Its highest-grossing territories were Mexico ($4.6 million), Russia ($4 million), the United Kingdom ($3.9 million), Brazil ($2.8 million) and France ($2.7 million). The low opening was blamed on similar audience hesitation as in the United States, as well as the coronavirus pandemic in Asia closing some theaters.[100] Yan acknowledged the film's unsatisfactory box office performance and stated, "There were also [undue] expectations on a female-led movie, and what I was most disappointed in was this idea that perhaps it proved that we weren't ready for this yet. That was an extra burden that, as a woman-of-color director, I already had on me anyway. So, yes, I think there were certainly different ways you could interpret the success or lack of success of the movie, and everyone has a right to do that. But, I definitely do feel that everyone was pretty quick to jump on a certain angle."[101]

On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds an approval rating of 78% based on 392 reviews, with an average rating of 6.73/10. The website's critics consensus reads, "With a fresh perspective, some new friends, and loads of fast-paced action, Birds of Prey captures the colorfully anarchic spirit of Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn."[102] On Metacritic, it has a weighted average score of 60 out of 100, based on 59 critic reviews, indicating "mixed or average reviews."[103] Audiences polled by CinemaScore gave the film an average grade of "B+" on an A+ to F scale, and PostTrak reported it received an average 3.5 out of 5 stars, with 61% of people surveyed saying they would definitely recommend it.[96][97] Richard Roeper of the Chicago Sun-Times gave the film 3.5 out of 4 stars, and said that "Robbie turns in a much richer and funnier and layered performance as Harley this time around, thanks in large part to the stiletto-sharp screenplay by Christina Hodson."[104] Joe Morgenstern, writing for The Wall Street Journal, stated, "Much of this R-rated movie is chaotic, yet it’s a richly hued, madly inventive, gleefully violent and happily slapdash contraption with a formidable female at its center."[105] Matthew Monagle of The Austin Chronicle gave it 4 out of 5 stars, and said that "Yan and Robbie lean into both sides of Quinn’s personality throughout the film. This allows Birds of Prey to earn every bit of its R-rating while still feeling like a Looney Tunes cartoon."[106] The Arizona Republic's Nicole Ludden praised Yan's direction, saying that it "carries a visually distinct style throughout the film that makes the layering of several chaotic scenes feel cohesive."[107] John DeFore of The Hollywood Reporter called the film "action-packed, but more rule-following than its bonkers protagonist," and wrote, "Yan finds plenty of opportunities for exciting set pieces: Extravagant action choreography makes the most of colorful set design, unlikely gimmicks and wrasslin'-style brutality. But Hodson's script offers far less diverting banter than it might've between the fight scenes."[108] Writing for Variety, Owen Gleiberman said the film was "thin but lively" and praised the performance of Robbie, as well as Yan's direction, although noted the script as having "attitude to spare, but in a rather bare-bones way."[109] Calling it "DC's first good action movie," Joshua Rivera of The Verge offered a mixed review while praising the film's relation to breakups, writing, "That manic energy is all that’s holding Birds of Prey together at times, and the fact that all of its characters seem to thrive in it makes it all the more disappointing that the movie doesn’t really take any time to get to know them better."[110] In a scathing review, Mick LaSalle of the San Francisco Chronicle wrote "Birds of Prey: And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn is more than horrible. It should not exist. Money should never have been raised for it. The screenplay should never have been filmed. Margot Robbie shouldn't have produced it. She certainly shouldn't have starred in it."[111]

Cathy Yan said that she was interested in directing a sequel that would explore Harley Quinn's relationship with Poison Ivy

ABOUT JOHN WICK CHAPTER-3 2019
John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum is a 2019 American neo-noir action-thriller film starring Keanu Reeves as the eponymous character. It is the third installment in the John Wick film series, following John Wick (2014) and John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017). The film is directed by Chad Stahelski[5] and written by Derek Kolstad, Shay Hatten, Chris Collins, and Marc Abrams, based on a story by Kolstad. It also stars Halle Berry, Laurence Fishburne, Mark Dacascos, Asia Kate Dillon, Lance Reddick, Anjelica Huston, and Ian McShane. In the film, which picks up minutes after the end of the previous film, ex-hitman John Wick finds himself on the run from legions of assassins after a $14 million contract is put on his head due to his recent actions. The third installment was announced in June 2017. Much of the returning cast and crew was confirmed in February 2018, with new members joining that May. Filming began that month and lasted through November, taking place in New York City, Montreal, and Morocco. Parabellum was theatrically released in the United States on May 17, 2019, by Lionsgate. It grossed $326 million worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing film of the franchise in just 10 days, and received positive reviews from critics, with praise for the action sequences, visual style, and Reeves's performance.[6] A sequel, John Wick: Chapter 4, is set to be released on May 27, 2022.

Less than an hour after the events of the second film, John Wick is now a marked man on the run in Manhattan. Before he is labeled "excommunicado" as a result of his unauthorized killing of High Table member Santino D'Antonio, Wick travels to the New York Public Library and retrieves two concealed items – a "marker" medallion and a crucifix. Then he is injured following a fight with a giant assassin named Ernest. Wick leaves to get medical treatment, but his excommunicado begins before the doctor can finish. Wick patches the injury himself and leaves but is found by a gang and after a fight in an antique dealership escapes onto the streets. John meets with Director, the head of the Ruska Roma, with the crucifix and requests her help in getting safe passage to Casablanca. The Director reluctantly helps, as John is a former protégé and is from Belarus, knowing that this act will violate her peace treaty with the High Table. An Adjudicator of the High Table meets with Winston, the manager of the New York Continental, and the Bowery King, the leader of a network of vagrants. The Adjudicator punishes both for helping John, giving them seven days to resign their positions, and hires Zero, a Japanese ninja. Zero and his students find the Director, slaughtering her guards and stabbing her hands as punishment for helping John. In Casablanca, John meets Sofia, a former friend and the manager of the Moroccan Continental. He asks her to honor a debt she owes him for aiding her daughter by directing him to the Elder, the only person above the High Table. Sofia takes John to Berrada, her former boss, who tells John he may find the Elder by wandering through the desert until he cannot walk any longer. In exchange, Berrada asks for one of Sofia's dogs. When Sofia refuses, he shoots the dog, killing it despite having a bulletproof vest. In retaliation, Sofia tries to kill Berrada but she only wounds him at John's warning. The two fight their way out of the kasbah and drive into the desert, where she leaves him. The Adjudicator and Zero confront the Bowery King, who refuses to abdicate his position. Zero's students slaughter almost all of his henchmen. As penance for helping John, Zero cuts the Bowery King seven times with a wakizashi. Collapsing in the desert, John is brought to the Elder and states that he is desperate to live to "earn" the memory of the love he once had with his wife. The Elder agrees to forgive Wick on condition that he assassinate Winston and continue to work for the High Table until his death. To show his commitment, John severs his ring finger and offers his wedding ring to the Elder. John returns to New York City and is attacked by Zero and his students, before reaching the protection of the Continental. John meets with Winston, who encourages John not to die as a killer but as a man who loved and was loved by his wife. The Adjudicator arrives, but Winston refuses to give up his office and John refuses to kill Winston, leading the Adjudicator to "deconsecrate" the NY Continental, revoking its neutral ground status. The Adjudicator notifies Zero and sends heavily armed and armored enforcers to kill John and Winston. Winston furnishes John with weapons, alongside Charon, and other hotel staff, helps defend the Continental. After killing the enforcers, John is ambushed by Zero and his students, and kills all but two respectful students and fatally wounds Zero. The Adjudicator agrees to a parley with Winston, who explains his rebellion as a "show of strength" and offers fealty to the High Table. After John arrives, the Adjudicator questions what should be done with him. Winston shoots John repeatedly, and he falls from the roof of the hotel. The Continental is "reconsecrated", but the Adjudicator informs Winston that John's body has disappeared, and that he remains a threat to them both. A seriously injured John and his dog are delivered to a now heavily scarred Bowery King. He states that he is really pissed off at the High Table and asks John if he is too. The film ends with John saying "Yeah".

Keanu Reeves as John Wick, Halle Berry as Sofia, an ex-assassin, former friend of John and the manager of the Continental Hotel in Casablanca, Ian McShane as Winston, Laurence Fishburne as the Bowery King, Mark Dacascos as Zero, Asia Kate Dillon as the Adjudicator, Lance Reddick as Charon, the concierge at the Continental Hotel, Tobias Segal as Earl, Anjelica Huston as the Director, Saïd Taghmaoui as the Elder, Jerome Flynn as Berrada, Randall Duk Kim as the Doctor. Duk Kim reprised his role from the first film, Margaret Daly as Operator, Robin Lord Taylor as Administrator, Susan Blommaert as Librarian, Jason Mantzoukas as Tick Tock Man, one of the Bowery King's men, Cecep Arif Rahman as Shinobi #1, one of Zero's pupils, Yayan Ruhian as Shinobi #2, another of Zero's pupils, Tiger Chen as Triad, Boban Marjanović as Ernest.

In October 2016, Chad Stahelski, who made his directorial debut with John Wick and served as Reeves' Matrix stunt double,[9] stated that a third film in the John Wick series was in the works,[10] and in June 2017 it was reported that Derek Kolstad, who wrote the two prior films, would return to write the screenplay.[11] In January 2018, it was reported that Stahelski would return to direct.[12] According to Reeves, the film's title was taken from the famous 4th-century Roman military quote "Si vis pacem, para bellum," which means, "If you want peace, prepare for war."[13] In an interview with The New York Times, McShane said that the film would be big, good, and that nothing is the same while also hinting that part of the action could be the High Table's payback not only on Wick but also on his close friend Winston.[14]

In January 2018, it was reported that Hiroyuki Sanada was in talks to join the cast.[12] Later, it was revealed that Ian McShane, Laurence Fishburne, and Lance Reddick would reprise their roles from previous John Wick films.[15] In May 2018, Halle Berry, Anjelica Huston, Asia Kate Dillon, Mark Dacascos, Jason Mantzoukas, Yayan Ruhian, Cecep Arif Rahman, and Tiger Chen joined the cast.[16][17][18] In November 2018, Said Taghmaoui confirmed his involvement in the film.[19]

Principal photography began May 5, 2018, in New York City and Montreal, along with the additional filming locations of Morocco. Principal photography wrapped on November 17, 2018.[15][19][20] Cinematographer Dan Laustsen was asked about how challenging it was to use as many extended fight scene takes as possible while filming the high action screenplay. He stated, "Of course it is [a challenge], because all the fights—Chad [Stahelski] is doing most of the fights himself. We play that as wide as we can. Because that way we see it’s him. We do that a lot, we try to play it as wide as we can and do long shots. Of course, because Chad has a background from the stunt world he knows exactly how to block this kind of stuff. I’m not the best stunt person in the world, but I’m learning."[21] In an interview with Jimmy Fallon, Halle Berry said, "I broke three ribs in rehearsal."[22]

The visual effects are provided by Method Studios, Image Engine, and Soho VFX.[23]

Tyler Bates and Joel J. Richard return to score the film. The soundtrack was released by Varese Sarabande Records. Also featured is the song "Ninja Re Bang Bang" by Japanese artist Kyary Pamyu Pamyu.[24]

Parabellum premiered in Brooklyn, New York on May 9, 2019.[25] The film was theatrically released in the United States on May 17, 2019, by Lionsgate. The film was released on Digital HD on August 23, 2019 and was released on DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K Ultra HD on September 10, 2019.[26] The studio spent an estimated $48 million on prints and advertisements promoting the film.[27]

John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum grossed $171 million in the United States and Canada, and $155.7 million in other territories, for a worldwide total of $326.7 million.[4] Deadline Hollywood calculated the net profit of the film to be $89 million, when factoring together all expenses and revenues.[27] In the United States and Canada, Parabellum was released alongside A Dog's Journey and The Sun Is Also a Star and was initially projected to gross $30–40 million from 3,850 theaters in its opening weekend.[28][29] The film made $5.9 million from Thursday night previews, more than the total of the Thursday night previews for the previous two films ($950,000 and $2.2 million). It then made $22.7 million on its first day (including previews), increasing its projected gross to $56 million. It went on to debut at $57 million, becoming the first film to dethrone Avengers: Endgame atop the box office.[30] It was the best opening of the series, and more than the first film made during its entire theatrical run ($43 million).[31] In its second weekend the film made $24.4 million, finishing second behind newcomer Aladdin.[32] It then earned $11.1 million in its third weekend and $6.4 million in its fourth.[33][34]

On review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds an approval rating of 90%, with an average rating of 7.47/10, based on 329 reviews. The website's critical consensus reads, "John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum reloads for another hard-hitting round of the brilliantly choreographed, over-the-top action that fans of the franchise demand."[35] On Metacritic, the film has a weighted average score of 73 out of 100, based on 50 critics, indicating "generally favorable reviews".[36] Audiences polled by CinemaScore gave the film an average grade of "A–" on an A+ to F scale, the same as its predecessor, while those at PostTrak gave it 4.5 out of 5 stars and a "definite recommend" of 75%.[31] Rotten Tomatoes also ranked it at No. 2 on its list of "The Best Action Movies of 2019".[37] Peter Sobczynski of RogerEbert.com gave the film 4 out of 4 stars, calling it "a work of pop cinema so blissfully, albeit brutally, entertaining that you come out of it feeling even more resentful of its multiplex neighbors for not making a similar effort."[38] Chris Nashawaty of Entertainment Weekly gave the film a grade of "A-", writing that "as gorgeously choreographed, gratuitously violent action movies go, it's high art".[39] Wendy Ide of The Observer gave the film 4 out of 5 stars, calling it "a flying kick to the senses" and writing that "The spectacular third installment in Keanu Reeves's fighting franchise overwhelms with opulent martial arts set pieces".[40]

On May 20, 2019, following the third film's successful debut, John Wick: Chapter 4 was announced and given a May 21, 2021 release date.[43] On May 1, 2020, the film was delayed to May 27, 2022.

Will the real face of this ASUR be revealed?

ABOUT ASUR SEASON-1 2020
Asur is a 2020 Indian Hindi-language crime thriller web series directed and co-produced by Oni Sen for video on demand platform Voot.[2] The series stars Arshad Warsi and Barun Sobti. The series is set in current times and revolves around serial killings. Arshad Warsi made his web debut in this series.[3]

Set in the backdrop of the mystical city of Varanasi, Asur follows Nikhil Nair, a forensic-expert-turned-teacher, who returns to his roots at the Central Bureau of Investigation, and along with his former mentor Dhananjay Rajpoot, finds himself caught in a cat-and-mouse game with a brutal serial killer.[4] The story is blend of suspense, mythology and solving the murders of some people totally unrelated.

Arshad Warsi as Dhananjay Rajput, Barun Sobti as Nikhil Nair, Anupriya Goenka as Naina Nair, Ridhi Dogra as Nusrat Saeed, Sharib Hashmi as Lolark Dubey, Amey Wagh as Rasool Shaikh, Pawan Chopra as Shashank Awasthi, Vishesh Bansal as Shubh, Gaurav Arora as Kesar Bharadwaj, Anvita Sudarshan as Raina Singh, Nishank Verma as Samarth Ahuja, Archak Chhabra as Aditya Jalan, Aditya Lal as Moksh, Deepak Qazir as Neelkanth Joshi, Bondip Sarma as Ankit Sharma, Jayant Raina as Radhacharan Joshi, Sunayna Baile as Lolark's Wife,

The episode starts with an 11 year old story where a young child named Shubh is seen performing puja rituals along side his father and a person. His father, while returning in a boat with his son, drowns in the river and dies. The young child is emotionless and it is shown that the child presumably poisoned his father. The story moves on to the present, where a forensics expert, Nikhil Nair, is shown teaching at the FBI HQ. Later on he is shown doing some dillydally with his wife Naina, arguing about the reasons to leave his job with the CBI, something which he deeply regrets. Meanwhile, in India, a charred body is found by the police, whose autopsy is performed by Dhananjay "DJ" Rajpoot, a senior forensic expert in the CBI. The modus operandi of the murder reveals that a serial killer is on a murder spree.

The episode starts with a story set 18 years ago where a young Shubh is shown as cold, ruthless and cruel. His father is shown calling him an Asur (demon/devil). In the present timeline, Nikhil comes back to work with the CBI. Towards the end of the episode, DJ receives an envelope containing a video in which the charred body is revealed to be that of his wife, Sandhya. Being directly related to the murdered, DJ can't handle the case anymore and Nikhil takes over the case. But even before he could come to terms with the inconceivable loss, Dhananjay is arrested for murdering his wife, based on Nikhil's calculation, and the camera pans out with the sight of a mysterious person witnessing all this.

The episode continues with another glimpse of the story set 18 years ago where it is revealed that Shubh shows symptoms of autism, and is deeply ill-affected by his father's torturous behaviour towards him. In the present timeline, with Dhananjay behind bars, Nikhil thinks it's all over until he gets 3 new coordinates from the same mysterious source. The killer follows the same pattern, thoroughly planned assaults targeted at random people at random locations.

The episode continues with the incident 11 years ago as it is shown that DJ was the person who was doing the puja rituals. While doing the puja, DJ finds something fishy about Shubh. After the death of the father, DJ tells everyone that he died due to poisoning not drowning. In the present timeline, Nikhil almost succeeds in finding out the murderer's location, but an automated tranquilizer attack results in the killer successfully capturing Nikhil alive in a remote location with no access, and Dhananjay is behind bars. Meanwhile, Dhananjay tries to figure out how it's all connected.

The episode continues with incident 11 years ago where Shubh is arrested and put behind bars for his father's murder. Shubh doesn't show much remorse and instead starts preaching from within the prison, as a wilful follower joins him and becomes his first disciple. In the present, Dhananjay is tasked by the CBI to work on the case while in prison. During work on the case, he meets Kesar Bhardwaj, a motivational speaker on spiritualism. Naina arrives looking for Nikhil with their daughter Ria, though Nushrat is unable to calm her down when Dhananjay's team inadvertantly reveals that Nikhil has gone missing. Dhananjay's colleague, Lolark, is sent by Dhananjay to Banaras and continues to dig into Shubh's background when Kesar figures out that Dhananjay's past may have something to do with it. Dhananjay, with his team, comprising Nikhil's ex-girlfriend Nushrat, hacker Rasool Shaikh, and a few other officers working directly under Lolark, tries to find the connection between the victims and concludes that they were all good people with no criminal records. Meanwhile, Nikhil, fearing Naina and their daughter Ria's safety, helps the killer murder a neuroscientist. A mysterious clue occurs to Dhananjay, who realizes that Nikhil is alive and he has contributed to the murder.

10 years ago, Shubh gets arrested and is in jail. Lolark inquires with the retired police officer. The officer tells him that he taught his jailmates and make them cut the fingers, just like is being done to the victims of this serial killing. He drew pictures of many asuras and read many scriptures. Lolark then went to meet Shubh's grandfather, from whom he finds out that Shubh was born on the day "Asur" is born when his father wanted him to be born the day "Devtas" are born. This is why Shubh was always called Asur and Raakshas, and this hate motivated him to kill his father. Lolark shares this information with Dhananjay, who says they need to find out what kind of Asur he is trying to be to understand his thought process. In the present, Nikhil is given another victim, Aditya Jalan, a famous businessman who generously wishes to donate a major share of his property to charity. Kesar helps Dhananjay by reading the horoscopes of all the victims and find out they belong to a specific Hindu zodiac sign. Dhananjay, with help from Naina, is able to hack into the firewall of the NIC, which gives the date, place and time of birth of people. From this, Dhananjay realizes that the next victim is Jalan. While Dhananjay gets a call from the killer saying that he knows he's trying to save Jalan from getting killed, this causes Dhananjay to convince Jalan to cancel his engagement, but Jalan rebuffs the warning. Dhananjay then enhances the security arrangements; realizing this, Nikhil plans a counterplot, though another counterplot is initiated by Dhananjay. Nikhil, however, finds another counterplot, which ultimately results in Jalan being killed the same way during the engagement party.

Dhananjay, aggrieved at his failure to save Jalan, seeks Kesar's help again, and finds out that the victims were born under a certain star. Knowing that the killer could very well come after him, Dhananjay stakes himself and asks Naina to manipulate the NIC database in order to get the killer to promptly plan his murder. Initially reluctant, Naina agrees. She receives a connected call from Nikhil and is relieved to find out he is alive, but the kidnapper cuts the call short. Parallel to this, a flashback shows that Nikhil met Shubh in prison and promised him that he would help him. Shubh responds by assuring him that he will be back. Nikhil gets a hint of his kidnapper and realizes that it may be Shubh, but he is unable to speak to him at all.

10 years earlier, Nikhil finds out that DJ had framed the evidence to send Shubh to prison, which is the reason why Nikhil resigned from the CBI. At present, Nikhil is assigned DJ as the next victim and tells the killer that he has to go to jail to kill him since the central jail has high surveillance. The killer gets into the jail and as per plotted, reaches DJ and is about to kill him, but gets tied up by DJ instead. Since the killer is in jail, Nikhil finds a way to get out of jail. There, the killer reveals there are many Shubhs and not one, prompting DJ to conclude that Kesar is the mastermind who murdered his wife. Additionally, two journalists and an Islamic preacher are locked in a chamber where they have only 12 hours of oxygen supply available. Naina has, meanwhile, left Ria to the care of a househelp. Meanwhile, Lolark spots a deep scar on Rasool's hand, and along the highway, he questions Rasool again, but Rasool, in turn, has his college friends speak to Lolark about him, which somewhat convinces Lolark. By this time, Nikhil manages to escape the killer's custody by mapping his fingerprints on a water tumbler and putting them in the biometric machine, but is unable to do anything to save the journalists. The preacher tries to convince the male journalist to kill the female journalist, but the male journalist disagrees, in response to which the preacher tries to strangle the male journalist to death, even as the female journalist comes forward to stop them both from killing each other. Lolark and Rasool successfully discover the killer's hideout, when Lolark stumbles upon a notebook in Rasool's bag and finds out that the drawings in his notebook are the same as what Shubh's grandfather gave him. Rasool reveals that he is actually Shubh in disguise, and that he is the commander of a spiritual cult where multiple people follow his preachings, Kesar turning out to be one of them. Kesar, upon being confronted, makes DJ confess what he did with the evidence against Shubh and compels him to self-harm, in return for telling the location of the journalists and the preacher. Eventually, it is revealed in a flashback that Kesar is actually Shubh's first disciple, the wilful one who joined him in prison. Shubh ties up Lolark after attacking him brutally and contacts Nikhil when he reunites with Naina upon discovering the location of the captives. DJ collapses after consuming the tablets offered to him by Kesar, which increased his heartbeat and blood pressure significantly, but Nushrat and the officers are able to rescue him. With time running out, Shubh offers Nikhil on phone the option of choosing between Ria and the captives, and Nikhil, exasperated, sacrifices Ria, who is revealed to have died through the househelp, revealed to be one of Shubh's followers, who spiked the food she was eating. He then shoots Lolark dead. However, the female journalist suddenly grabs a pistol from one of the lady officers and shoots the Islamic preacher dead. DJ's revelation spews another rivalry between Nikhil and DJ since it was DJ's mistake 10 years ago that led to all these killings and thus, Ria's death, in the form of revenge. Finally, the camera pans out as Shubh has one last stare at DJ, implying probably that DJ has sensed that "Rasool" is the real Shubh.

[16] Anupama Chopra of Film Companion noted that, "Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan wants to be both – an impassioned defense of same-sex love as well as a family entertainer. But the writing can’t seamlessly blend the disparate elements."[17] Saibal Chatterjee of NDTV proclaimed that "The comic flights of fancy do not always take off in the right direction or land smoothly, but with the actors going all out to make the film work, some parts of Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan are genuinely funny and quirky. The film may be erratic in parts, but its entertainment quotient is delightfully high for a film tackling a clash between conservatism and freedom, between tradition and modernity."[18] Monika Rawal Kukreja of Hindustan Times commented that "Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan is an important film that talks about an important subject conveyed in the simplest manner without sounding preachy at any given point. It touches your heart, makes you laugh and stays with you for a long time."[19] Devesh Sharma of Filmfare gave the film a rating of 4/5 and urged the audience to "Watch the film for its hilarious comedy, slick all around performances and ultimately for its powerful message of love and acceptance."[20]
