Coolie No. 1 is a 2020 Indian Hindi-language comedy film directed by David Dhawan and produced by Vashu Bhagnani. A remake of 1995 film of the same name,[2][3] the film stars Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan, with Paresh Rawal in a supporting role. Principal photography began on 8 August 2019 in Bangkok. The film was set to be theatrically released in India on 1 May 2020, but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[4][5] Later, it was released on 25 December, during Christmas on Amazon Prime Video.[1]
Pandit Jai Kishen invites a family to Jeffrey Rosario's house to to talk about marriage for the son and Rosario's daughter Sarah. But Rosario insults the family as well as Jai Kishen for bringing a family not rich enough for his standards. Jai Kishen seeks to take revenge for the belittlement.
On the railway platform there was a coolie he was being insulted and was given more luggage to carry but he refuses and the group starts to fight. At that time a coolie named Raju enters and fights against them and takes them to police station where police finds that they were carrying drugs in the bag.
While Panditji was walking on the platform, the picture of Sarah Rosario fell from his bag and the picture flew to Raju. Pandit decides to take help of Raju to revenge against Rosario.

Shooting of the movie kick-started in Bangkok in the month of August 2019.[11][12]In India part of the movie was shot in Goa.[13][14] The film shooting was wrapped up in the month of February 2020 and was slated to hit screens on May 1, 2020.[15][16][17] However, due to COVID-19 pandemic the film skipped theatrical release and was streamed on Amazon Prime Video on Christmas this year.[18]
The music of the film was composed by Tanishk Bagchi, Lijo George – DJ Chetas, Javed – Mohsin and Salim–Sulaiman while the lyrics were written by Sameer Anjaan, Rashmi Virag, Shabbir Ahmed, Danish Sabri, Ikka and Farhad Samji.
Two of the popular songs from the Coolie No. 1 (1995 film), "Husn Hai Suhana" and "Main Toh Raste Se Jaa Raha Tha", originally composed by Anand-Milind and written by Sameer were recreated for the film with the original vocals and singers being retained.[20][21][22]
The film was set to be theatrically released in India on 1 May 2020, but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[23][5]
But as the pandemic refused to slow down, the film was released directly on Amazon Prime Video on 25 December 2020, coinciding with Christmas.[1]
The film received mixed reviews from the critics. Shubhra Gupta of Indian Express rated it 1 out of 5 stars, calling it a "zero wit, no flair".[24] Taran Adarsh of Bollywood Hungama rated it 3.5/5 stars, calling it funny and entertaining.[25] Writing for Film Companion, Anupama Chopra called the film "offensive and unfunny".[26] Film critics Joginder Tujeta of Planet Bollywood rated the film 3.5/5 stars calling the film good watch.[27] Film critics, Sumit Kadel and Rohitt Jaiswal rated the film 3/5 stars. Hindustan Times rated the film 1/5 stars and called the film limp spoof of the original.[28] Himesh Mankad of Mumbai Mirror rated it 3/5 stars calling the film made to entertain. Zee News rated the film 3/5 stars. India Today and Aaj Tak also rated the film 3/5.
